_Before we go into today’s reading, let’s recap a little from yesterday. Exodus 32:4-5 says, “(Aaron) …made a molded calf. Then they said, "This is your god, O Israel, that brought you out of the land of Egypt!" 5) So when Aaron saw it, he built an altar before it. And Aaron made a proclamation and said, "Tomorrow is a feast to the LORD (Yahweh)." The people had the name right, but their image of Him was all wrong. People do the same thing today; Jesus said many would come in His name and deceive many. We can say we serve Jesus Christ, but not serve Jesus Christ. We can say we have “accepted” Jesus Christ, but we have not really accepted all what He has said. What a shame it is how often people proclaim the right name but change His image.
Moses was a man of intersession and prayer; I’m sure this was the greatest strength of his leadership.
After the LORD said to Moses in Exodus 32:10, “let Me alone, that My wrath may burn hot against them and I may consume them. And I will make of you a great nation," Moses pleaded with the LORD to spare the people and the LORD relented (Ex. 32:14)
Then the LORD says in Exodus 33:2-3, “I will send My Angel before you, and I will drive out the Canaanite and the Amorite and the Hittite and the Perizzite and the Hivite and the Jebusite. 3) Go up to a land flowing with milk and honey; for I will not go up in your midst, lest I consume you on the way, for you are a stiff-necked people."
Moses was unwilling to have the physical promise without the LORD being amongst them. Through persistent prayer Moses found manifested grace for his nation. In Exodus 33:13-14 Moses says, “Now therefore, I pray, if I have found grace in Your sight, show me now Your way, that I may know You and that I may find grace in Your sight. And consider that this nation is Your people." 14) And He said, "My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest." Through prayer, the nation escaped judgment and saw God’s glory come to abide with them. It’s through prayer we see God’s judgment stayed and His glory manifested.
