2012 Reading Through

The Bible, God's Word

_ We’re embarking on reading through the Bible in 2012. The word “Bible” comes from the Greek word biblia, simply meaning: “the books.” Jesus called it “the Scripture,” and said it could not be broken. (John 10:35) The word scripture means “the writing” or, “the document.” How awesome it is that God would compose a document to us.

The 66 books of the Bible were written:
  1. On three continents.
  2. In three languages.
  3. By about 40 different people (kings, shepherds, a farmer, a tax collector, an army general, fishermen, priests, and a physician).
  4. Over a period of about 1,500 years.
  5. On many controversial subjects.
  6.  By people who, in most cases, had never met.
  7. By authors whose education and background varied greatly.

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, or literally, it is “God-breathed.”  (2 Tim. 3:17)

II Peter 1:20-21 says the prophetic Scriptures came as holy men were moved upon by the Holy Spirit.

“The words of the LORD are pure words, Like silver tried in a furnace of earth, Purified seven times.” (Psalms 12:6)

God’s Word is His wisdom and it’s also seed that contains the ability of God. He sends His Word as a seed to accomplish what He pleases. (Isaiah 55:11) We will see results in our life as His Word is planted in our hearts. God made salvation available by the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, but it is the Gospel that is the power of God to salvation. (Romans 1:16) It is God’s Word that we believe in our hearts that brings God’s salvation to us. God’s Word can change any situation or person. Get ready to see change in and through your life.
