In Leviticus 25 the LORD tells them every 50 years they will have a Jubilee. The word “Jubilee” simply means a long blast of the horn, but the meaning of the year had a much deeper meaning. In the year of Jubilee slaves went free and whatever land you lost through poverty, you received back.
Isaiah prophesied the deeper meaning of the Jubilee in Isaiah 61:1-2:
"The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon Me, Because the LORD has anointed Me To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound; 2) To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, And the day of vengeance of our God; To comfort all who mourn"
All these realities of the Jubilee are accomplished in Jesus Christ. That is why He read from these Scriptures (Luke 4:18-19) then He said in Luke4:21, "Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing."
Jesus came to “proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD;” this is the year of Jubilee!
