God forbid His people from eating any blood (Lev. 17:10) “For the life of the flesh is in the blood” (vrs. 11), and He gave it to make atonement. As with much of the Law, this had a dual purpose. First, it was so His people would give proper respect to the blood of every living creature. The people were atoned of their sin by animal sacrifice and the sin of the world was paid for by the blood Jesus shed. Second, it’s not healthy to eat blood. Today kosher meat is meticulously prepared by draining, cutting and then the meat is “salted” to draw out more blood from the meat and then it is rinsed.
It is important to remember our righteousness comes through faith in Christ and not by obeying the Law, but it would do us well to apply the wisdom that the Law contains. What if society obeyed Leviticus 19:32 “‘you shall rise before the gray headed and honor the presence of an old man, and fear your God: I am the LORD.” This one principle could greatly change this nation.
The LORD said in, Leviticus 19:2 "Speak to all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say to them: 'You shall be holy, for I the LORD your God am holy.” In Leviticus 20:26 He goes on to say why; “And you shall be holy to Me, for I the LORD am holy, and have separated you from the peoples, that you should be Mine.” He loves us with a jealous love; why would we want to “belong” to anything else.
