King Josiah began to make his sweeping spiritual changes to the nation at the age of twenty, and God calls Jeremiah, as a “youth,” to begin his prophetic ministry to Judah within a year. Jeremiah 1:1-2 says, “The words of Jeremiah …to whom the word of the LORD came in the days of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign.”
King Josiah tore down all the altars to Baal and restored worship to Yahweh in Judah, but the people were not doing it from the heart. The LORD says in Jeremiah 3:10, “… Judah has not turned to Me with her whole heart, but in pretense.” As they walked in their rebellion, God continued to call His people back to Him. As we begin to read through the book of Jeremiah we will get a clearer picture of what was going on in the nation as Josiah brought reform
