_ Chapter 22
As God tests Abraham and asks him to give his son as a sacrifice, Abraham may have given one of the most important prophecies in Scripture: “God will provide for Himself the lamb for a burnt offering" (Genesis 22:8). Powerful!... At the time Abraham was willing to give his son in faith that God would resurrect him, he gives the prophecy that God would give His Own Son. Hebrews 11:17-19 says, “By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises offered up his only begotten son, 18 of whom it was said, "IN ISAAC YOUR SEED SHALL BE CALLED," 19 concluding that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead, from which he also received him in a figurative sense.” Abraham was a true friend (covenant partner) with God. (See James 2:23 & 2 Chronicles 20:7) Chapter 23 I love how Abraham refuses to “push his weight around,” and refuses to be cheap; he pays full price for the land to bury his beloved wife. Chapter 24 Abrahams sends his servant (Eliezer) to find a suitable wife for his son. This is a picture of how the Holy Spirit is wooing and convicting people in the world today to bring back a wife for the Son of God. Just as Eliezer came with gifts, so the Holy Spirit comes with gifts to reveal the Son. Rebekah needed to be willing to leave her homeland to follow this servant to marry a man she has never seen. So, we too leave this world behind to follow His way for our life, so we will have perfect “oneness” with the Son one day at the marriage supper of the Lamb.

Such a tremendous act of faith shown in Abraham when he was convinced to the point of offering Isaac as a sacrifice. He was so convinced that God who had been so faithful in giving them the child he promise even in a old age that God would have to resurrect Isaac to keep the promises he made.

Abraham had the faith and the vision to see the bigger picture. It wasn't all about him and his fulfillment, but God's plan and promises. I was thinking about how I might feel, waiting all that time for God to fulfill His Word to me, and how much I would adore that child and feel like...you want to take him away from me after all that? But Abraham knew God. God called him a friend. He knew that God had promised him Isaac and that He was going to multiply his seed through him. That's all he needed....God's Word. It was settled in his heart. Lord, give us hearts like Abraham's. Hearts that know You. Hearts that trust You. That we would move on Your Word even when it doesn't seem to make sense. That we would know that Your plans for us are for good, because You love us, and because You have a plan for salvation through Jesus in us.
