Genesis 4-7 (Day 2)

Once again we are covering a lot of rich material in a short amount of time; God will give us grace to receive what He has for us. "may the Lord give you understanding in all things." (2 Tim. 2:7)

I want to focus on 2 things for today.

First:

Genesis 4:5 says God did not respect Cain or his offering. I believe the answer to why is in verses 3 & 4...

Genesis 4:3-5
And in the process of time it came to pass that Cain brought an offering of the fruit of the ground to the LORD. Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat. And the LORD respected Abel and his offering,

Cain brought something to God "in the process of time," but Able brought the "firstborn" to God; Able honored God with the firstborn. The Lord takes our giving very seriously. Jesus said our heart would be in the same place we put our treasure. (see Matt 6:21) Let this be a reminder to us that giving is an important part of our worship to Him.

Second thing:

Question: Why was Noah and his family spared from the flood that destroyed the earth?

Noah found grace in the sight of God. I believe it was because he took seriously the Word that was passed down. Of Adam in the garden, of Abel bringing his first fruits, and of Enoch his great great grandpa who walked with God, and one day, was taken alive to heaven, He chose to believe and honor God in his household even though everything and everyone around him was contrary to goodness and righteousness. He still chose to fear God and live right. This got God's attention. And through that one man, we all received mercy because, if not for that, mankind wouldn't exist! Our choice to follow after God and His will affects so much more than just us and our lives. We never know how great of an effect our walk can have.
