Today’s reading covers many different topics; James gives so many great nuggets of wisdom. One subject that recurs a few times throughout the short letter is the subject of patience. Right from the beginning he says we need to have patience while we’re going through trials; it is the only way God can finish the work He desires to do in us and through us. We may be tempted to walk in fleshly, demonic “wisdom” in our trials out of bitterness or self seeking (see James 3:14). Instead, James says, in James 3:17, “the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.” Lets continue to walk in love in difficult situations and “be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord” (James 5:7). Remember how God’s prophets suffered in faith and we know they are now blessed (See James 5:11)! Job suffered for a time, but God in His compassion and mercy did great things for Job because he patiently endured.
