_ This is the third and last blog post before we start reading the Bible through in chronological order starting January 1st, 2012. If you’re not joining us, I still hope you have a plan to set time aside daily to read the Bible in the coming year.
You can find the daily Bible reading on the PDF file on the right side bar. I will also be posting it on the weekly or daily blog posts.
One way to read the bible is at www.biblegateway.com. They even have audio versions in King James, NASB, ESV, and NIV. I encourage you to actually read the Bible and engage yourself in it, but sometimes having someone read to you at the same time can be beneficial. If you have a smart phone or tablet, try the app at www.youversion.com. They have free translations you can download like the KJV, NKJV and the Amplified. This app has audio Bibles too. I prefer the King James as a translation, but the reader on the English standard version of this app is especially good in my opinion.
Check back in a few days for the first post referring to the Bible readings. It would be beneficial if you click on the RSS Feed button on the right; it will notify you whenever a new blog posting appears. If you don't know what that is or how to use a "feed reader" I will include a video on Google’s feed reader; there are many others though! If you use Yahoo, you have one built in at: http://my.yahoo.com.
Alright, that all for now; let’s enjoy this journey together!
_ We’re embarking on reading through the Bible in 2012. The word “Bible” comes from the Greek word biblia, simply meaning: “the books.” Jesus called it “the Scripture,” and said it could not be broken. (John 10:35) The word scripture means “the writing” or, “the document.” How awesome it is that God would compose a document to us.
The 66 books of the Bible were written:
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, or literally, it is “God-breathed.” (2 Tim. 3:17)
II Peter 1:20-21 says the prophetic Scriptures came as holy men were moved upon by the Holy Spirit.
“The words of the LORD are pure words, Like silver tried in a furnace of earth, Purified seven times.” (Psalms 12:6)
God’s Word is His wisdom and it’s also seed that contains the ability of God. He sends His Word as a seed to accomplish what He pleases. (Isaiah 55:11) We will see results in our life as His Word is planted in our hearts. God made salvation available by the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, but it is the Gospel that is the power of God to salvation. (Romans 1:16) It is God’s Word that we believe in our hearts that brings God’s salvation to us. God’s Word can change any situation or person. Get ready to see change in and through your life.
By just reading 3 1/4 chapters a day on average you will read through the entire Bible this year. Join us as we go through the Bible as a group this year starting January 1st, 2012. Reading it as a group will help you stay the course through the whole year. We will be reading it through in chronological order; this will give you a better feel for the order that things took place in. You will also get a chance to comment or ask questions on particular readings throughout the year. We will be posting the chapters to read for each day and you can also download a "Reading Plan" for the entire year from the bottom of the right sidebar. I hope you join us, but if you don't I still trust God will show you many wonderful things from His awesome Word this year! May God bless you as you read and study His Word.
PS. 2012 is a leap year with 366 days; now you have no excuse :)
